SHIPLAKE ran out 98-68 winners at home to GREAT HOLLANDS on Saturday in a five triples mixed friendly match.

Having a small lead in the early stages Graham Kennedy pulled away from end 10 to win comfortably by 16.

Racing into a 19-2 lead at the 10th, Matt Shepherd lost the next five ends before pulling away again to win by 18.

After a poor start Jim Bland drew back to level the scores on the last but one end, only to lose by one on the last.

Up against strong opposition, Roger Pitcher found himself 9-3 down by the sixth. He won five more ends but couldn’t claw back the deficit, going down by nine.

Scoring a six on the third end placed Martin Cranstoun in a good position for the rest of the match, coming home six to the good.

On Sunday SHIPLAKE lost out at home to ROYAL HOUSEHOLD from Windsor in a six rink mixed friendly by 121 shots to 107.

Daphne Jacob got off to a good start by winning six of the first seven ends before her opponent got within two by the 17th. Jacob pulled away again to win by eight.

In a see-saw game Roger Pitcher found himself seven down by end 13. He then got within two by the 18th only to drop a four, eventually losing by five.

Starting off with a four Jim Bland then struggled and found himself nine adrift at the 15th. He scored seven to his opponents’ one to bring him three down going into the last end. He finished as he started, scoring a four, to win by one.

Wendy Cross went 8-5 up early in the game but then struggled for the rest of the game, losing by 17.

Barrie Evans’ four were too strong for his opponents, winning the majority of the ends before dropping five later on, winning by 10.

Nine down after three ends David Webb pulled back to within five shots where it remained until the 20th when he dropped a four to put the result beyond his reach.

WARGRAVE lost out by 100 shots to 90 against HURST on Sunday where they won on two rinks and drew on a third.

Wargrave’s winning rinks consisted of Brian Turrnbull, Eddie Allen and Marion Pope and Bill Cordell, Val Sims and Ken Brooks.

WARGRAVE ran out 43-40 winners in their match with READING UNIVERSITY on Wednesday of last week despite only winning on two of the five rinks played.

The Wargrave winning rinks consisted of Bill Cordell, David Smith and Pete Burton and Bryan Byott, Mary Trussler and George Smith.

The previous week David Voller, Ray Trussler and Marian Pope won the club two woods triples competition.
