Landlords reveal their ‘least popular’ tenants

HOW do you turn off a prospective landlord? The answer in one word: smoke.

HOW do you turn off a prospective landlord? The answer in one word: smoke.

A recent survey has found that smokers are the least popular type of tenants amongst landlords.

The survey conducted by YouGov had 64 per cent of participants voting that smoking is their biggest turn-off.

Smokers find themselves to be even less popular than the 44 per cent of landlords who would prefer not to let to housing benefit tenants and the 40 per cent who dislike student tenants.

Another revealing outcome of the survey is that Britain really is a country of pet lovers, with only 34 per cent of landlords saying that they would not let to people with pets.

Michael Cook, lettings managing director at Romans, says: “Finding the ideal home for our tenants is very important to us and our landlords.

“To help ensure this happens we carry out thorough reference checks and supply tenancy agreements approved by a legal professional.

“Because we work hard to try and find the perfect match for our tenants and landlords’ properties we very rarely have any serious problems with the properties we manage.

“However, to ensure any issues that do arise are resolved as quickly as possible, each landlord and tenant in our fully managed properties have their own dedicated property manager.”
