New management for Wargrave dress shop

A DRESS shop will re-open under new management next Saturday.

Willow Dress Agency in High Street, Wargrave, closed at the weekend after owner Lynne Day decided to move to Devon, where she grew up.

Ms Day, 47, of Damer Gardens, Henley, had run the store since November after selling her first store in Kent.

The shop has been taken over by Janet Middleton-Stewart, 68, who will be helped by her daughter Sarah Penny, 47, and friend Jane Martin, 63.

Ms Day said: “I’m really happy someone is taking the shop over and it will continue in Wargrave. There’s a dress agency in the town I am moving to and in both neighbouring towns so I won’t be opening a store down there. Otherwise I would have taken the whole lot with me.

“I’m going back into hospitality, which is what I’ve been doing for seven years, and have been tempted back to Devon. It was a big decision to go but it’s ‘home’.”

Mrs Middleton-Stewart, who lives with husband Ian in Meadow Road, Henley, works part-time at the River and Rowing Museum and volunteers at the Kenton Theatre.

She said: “I’ve never run a clothes shop before but in the Eighties I used to sell BMX bikes in Henley. I’m very eco-friendly and I’m glad what we are doing is essentially recycling clothes. My friend Jane and daughter Sarah will be helping me. Jane and I are no spring chickens so Sarah can do the heavy lifting!

“I am looking forward to our grand opening and we have planned some special evenings, such as dressings to get people ready for big events like the royal regatta, Ascot or school proms.”

Mrs Penny, from Emmer Green, used to work for Regency cleaning, her husband Darren’s business in Newtown Road, Henley, but left when it expanded.

Mrs Martin moved to Wargrave from South Africa five years ago and lives in Highfield Park with her husband Ian.
