Character house commended by National Gardens

A CHARACTER property commended for its gardens by the National Gardens Scheme has come on to the market.

Fletchers is one of nearly 50 listed buildings in the unspoilt village of East Hagbourne, and parts of the property are thought to date back to the mid-16th century.

Accommodation includes three good-sized reception rooms, a well-fitted Roundhouse kitchen/breakfast room with Aga, and five good-sized bedrooms, with three attic rooms providing additional bedrooms or play areas.

Throughout the house there is evidence of its architectural history with exposed oak frames, sash and casement windows, some with vertical box shutters, large open fireplaces and original wattle and daub. The garden is an equally important feature of the property and has been laid out as a classic English country garden.

“The gardens of any property are an essential element for framing the house, and this garden offers a most exquisite frame,” says agent Tim Sherston.
