Originally used as the store for a former bakery, present owners Nigel and Lysette Offley first became aware of the property back in the Eighties when friends used it as their own storage facility. When it came up for sale in 2006 they saw its potential to become a residential building.

At the time it had a much smaller footprint, with a lean-to single storey, but they were able to secure permission to extend at the back and re-build the single storey.

The couple certainly have the design credentials — they were featured last year on Channel 4’s Grand Designs for their rather controversial riverside property in Shiplake.

But the Tin Store had no such problems — the couple worked in collaboration with their architect and, with a lot of their own input, were able to visualise how to get the best out of the space available.

Nigel said: “You definitely needed some vision. We almost built it for ourselves, although we knew we were going to rent it out — I struggled not to use the best materials possible. I didn’t want to compromise and everything has been done to a very high standard.”

After renting the property for some time, the couple decided to put it on the market. Despite having had a couple of really good tenants, they re-decorated and revamped the floors so the property is in tip-top condition — and the new owners will ceratainly benefit from Nigel and Lysette’s attention to detail and design with high-spec fixtures and fittings used throughout.

The property features an open-plan living/dining space with contemporary fitted kitchen, and bi-fold doors leading to a private walled garden. There is a fantastic master bedroom with vaulted ceiling and en-suite bathroom, plus a ground floor guest room and separate shower room.
