White Hart transformed into Indian restaurant

AN Indian restaurant has opened for business in Wargrave.

AN Indian restaurant has opened for business in Wargrave.

Spice Lounge in High Street was formerly the White Hart pub and is next to the former Old Post Office coffee house, which closed in April.

The business is owned by Fokrul Islam and Abdullah Babla, who already have a restaurant of the same name in Staines.

They have refurbished the premises, adding features such as a new bar and LED lighting.

The restaurant serves a wide range of Indian cuisine for both diners and takeaway customers. Mr Babla, 42, from Luton, said they chose Wargrave because they felt there was no equivalent restaurant in the immediate area.

?I saw the village and my partner said this is a nice place ? the building is 17th century,? he said. ?I think it?s going to work out.?

Dozens of people attended the restaurant?s official opening last month and the partners say it has been busy in the two weeks since then.

Mr Babla said: ?On opening day we invited some of the neighbours and they invited some more people so we had about 150 people.

?Everyone was given complimentary food and drink. Hopefully, we can open up more restaurants as we are keen to expand.?

Mr Islam, 35, of Caversham Road, Reading, believes the location of the restaurant will attract custom.

He said: ?I live locally and know the area quite well. There?s definitely a gap in the market. Business has been very good so far.?

The restaurant is open daily at lunchtime and in the evening.
