Bungalow transformed into modern barn-style home

A FORMER Nineties bungalow at Russell’s Water has been tranformed into a stunning contemporary barn-style home.

A FORMER Nineties bungalow at Russell’s Water has been tranformed into a stunning contemporary barn-style home.

Beech Barn is a brand new bespoke property built by Chesterton Commercial Group, a renowned local developer. The house provides a fantastic mix of ground and first floor accommodation with two principal bedroom suites on the first floor and three additional bedroom suites on the ground floor.

The project took 21 months from receipt of planning permission to completion, with the building replacing a very ordinary Nineties bungalow. It is thought the original property had been named Beech Barn after the large copper beech tree at the entrance to the property and the new building has retained the title.

A spokesman for the developer said as with all Chesterton properties, they take each site on its own merits. “Great thought went into the design of Beech Barn to complement its stunning location.”

And he added that while the design provides a contemporary home, there are some traditional elements. “We wanted to avoid a ‘bland’ new build and incorporated ‘barn-style’ features although this is by no means a barn conversion. We do feel it has a good mix of modern and traditional features with an emphasis on wood.”

Beech Barn, as with all Chesterton properties, has been finished to a very high specification, so much so that the company director’s wife thinks it’s perfect and wants to keep it herself!

The spokesman added that while great attention to detail was placed on the design of the property it is the location that was the motivating factor. “Each room has their individual strong points and although the ‘entertaining’ room is unique, the views from the rear-facing rooms are unsurpassed. It really is all about location, location, location.”

The heart of the house is a magnificent kitchen/breakfast room, featuring bespoke light oak cabinets and a black granite worktop with inset double sink and a professional range cooker with ovens. High quality appliances have been incorporated into the design including a Siemens coffee machine, a Siemens microwave oven, an integrated wine fridge, and an American-style fridge/freezer. The central island unit provides excellent additional cupboards with preparation ‘insinkerator’ and an instant hot water tap, with a granite worktop.

The adjoining utility room is similarly well fitted with WC off and space and plumbing for washing machine and space for free-standing fridge. The adjoining vaulted dining hall and family/sitting room provide outstanding accommodation, with the oak frame visible in the ceiling and oak-panelled walls enhancing the character of the building.

There are numerous Cat5 data, TV and electrical points throughout the property, including a Perla electronic video gate entry system. The property is also wired for speakers throughout.

The highest quality oak joinery and glazing has been used throughout, with floor-to-ceiling windows in a number of the principal reception rooms, providing tremendous natural light and enhancing the sense of space within the principal rooms of the barn.

Outside a superb landscaped approach over a stone chipped driveway provides access to a substantial parking and turning area in front of the house enclosed by the north and south wings of the house. The front gardens have been landscaped and laid to lawn with mature beech hedging providing privacy from the lane. The triple garage block with three electric up-and-over doors incorporates a plant room comprising two Gloworm gas fired boilers, two stainless steel pressurised hot water cylinders, water tank and high pressure pump.

The rear garden has a substantial south and west facing terrace off the kitchen/breakfast room and drawing room and has been seeded, beyond which is a post and rail fenced grass paddock. There is a mature tree lined boundary to the west.

The property is available for a guide price of £3.5 million. For more details, call Savills on (01491) 843000 or Ballards on (01491) 411055.
