THE winners of Romans’ photography competition, The Local Picture, have now been chosen — with the overall winner declared to be Nick Board with his photo A lull in proceedings and the public choosing their winner, Lizzie Barry, with Always somewhere peaceful...
People voted in their thousands for their favourite Public Vote winner, with Lizzie’s photo receiving more than 1,800 votes.
The other three categories were chosen by a judging panel made up of Caroline Ross, head of photography at Niche Communications; Jon Bradley from Jon Bradley Photography; Tony Shields, a member of Wallingford Photographic Club; and Peter Coles, managing director of Romans.
Both Nick Board and Lizzie Barry received £500 in House of Fraser vouchers and a £3,000 donation to a charity of their choice, while the two runners-up each received a £250 voucher plus a £500 donation. Chosen charities should be announced soon.
Jon Bradley said: “The standard was incredibly high and the judging not easy, but I feel the winners stood out for being exceptional images that capture a different perspective on our local environment.”
Tony Shields said: “The image of the Madejski Stadium was the clear winner. Cleverly composed, using the reflection for almost half the picture, the image works so well and the true icing on the cake is the face on the advert looking directly at the viewer.”
Caroline Ross said: “The standard of entries across the board was great. Whilst I loved the clarity of those shots taken on DSLRs or similar, I would never discount a photograph taken on lower grade kit for that reason alone — everyone has to start somewhere.”
