Slipway installed

A METAL slipway has been installed at Wargrave Boating Club.

It replaces an old wooden one, which had become unreliable.

The new slipway was installed last week, over a period of three days, by Ian Bacon of Edwards and White Sheet Metal in Stoke Row.

The slipway is primarily for punts and skiffs, but it is also used for kayaks.

Club chairman Johnny Wylde said:  “For ever we’ve had a slipway made of wooden slats, which had to be repaired on an annual basis. 

“It was giving us some problems, along with the annual repairs, it was damaging the bottom of the boats with some screws sticking up.

“So, we invested in a metal slipway, which will hopefully give us many years of uninterrupted use.

“It’s wonderful, very easy to use and low friction, and will last a long time.”

The annual Wargrave Rag regatta, which was due to take place last weekend at the club, was cancelled due to forecast thundershowers.

The club have pencilled in a new date of Sunday, September 10, which is to be confirmed.
