ACTOR George Clooney wants to build a home cinema and swimming pool at his £10million home in Sonning Eye.
The Hollywood star, who bought Mill House with new wife Amal Alamuddin in October, has applied to South Oxfordshire District Council for permission to refurbish an annexe next to the Grade II listed property on the banks of the Thames.
The development would comprise bedrooms, offices, staff accommodation, a kitchen and a gym. Part of a greenhouse would be converted into a 12-seat cinema. There would also be an 18m swimming pool made from York stone as well as a pool house, jacuzzi and changing rooms.
Several trees have already been removed to make way for the new pool, with replacements being planted elsewhere in the grounds.
The large gardens would be landscaped with new flowerbeds and an ornamental water fountain.
Clooney, 53, has also applied for boundary fences and security gates at the Georgian manor house, which already has a gym, library, steam room, cellar and boathouse.
Last week, builders started work on the estate and lorries containing plants and trees were seen entering the grounds. One lorry blocked traffic on Sonning Bridge while trying to manoeuvre into the driveway.
The house has been covered with sheeting ahead of the work and scaffolding has been erected on the north side.
Alamuddin works in London as a human rights lawyer.
