Cyclists set-off to ride length of Britain

TWO men from Shiplake are aiming to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in eight days.

Rob Hortopp, of Badgers Walk, and John Regan, of Mill Road, don’t have a support team so must carry everything they need on their 900-mile ride.

Mr Hortopp said: “I’m apprehensive, I have to say. We’ve never cycled anywhere near this distance before. I only bought my road bike about a month ago and I’ve been on it about eight times so this is a real voyage into the unknown for us.

“However, it’s going to be absolutely fantastic — how often do you get to see the length of the country by bike?”

The men, both 45, set off today (Friday). They are raising money for Action for Children. To donate, visit
