A CHOCOLATE flavour chosen by a competition winner has raised more than £150 for a disability support charity in its first year of production.
Gorvett and Stone, based in Duke Street, launched the orange and passionfruit caramel flavour chosen by Callie Barcella, eight, who won a chocolate tasting contest last September.
It was part of a fundraising effort with the Chiltern Centre in Greys Road, which supports young people with disabilities. The caramels were named “Callie’s Choice” after the Badgemore Primary School pupil selected them from five other flavours.
Since they went into production a year ago, the store has sold £1,500 worth of the chocolates.
Katie Willson-Sheehan, who works at the store, said it would continue to produce the flavour, which she said is now one of their “classics”. She said: “We’re going to carry on making them because it has been successful and everyone likes chocolates and we want to do something for a local charity.
“It’s one of our classics now — we want to keep selling it and we’re hoping to sell a lot more at Christmas.”
Cheryl Purver, community and partnerships manager at the charity, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Gorvett and Stone for its ongoing support.
“What started as a small community competition has created a firm favourite among Henley’s chocolate lovers. Our thanks also go out to those that have supported by buying the chocolates.
“It brings us joy to know that 12 months later shoppers still bound into the store asking for ‘the Chiltern Centre chocolate’.”
