Customers give £800 to post office worker

Customers give £800 to post office worker

A MEMBER of staff at Henley post office was given £800 for Christmas by customers to thank her for her work.

Jenny Dobson teared up as she received her surprise gift and a card at the post office in Reading Road.

She said: “It is a big surprise. Thank you so much — that is very kind.”

Eighty-two people contributed to the collection, which was organised by Agi Papp.

Ms Papp, who lives in Henley, came up with the idea of the online fundraiser while queuing at the post office.

She said: “I come in every day pretty much and queue up and see she is on her own. The guys help but she works so hard and works in Tesco as well.

“I just had a thought. I asked what people thought about surprising her and loads of people said they were in, so I started the fundraising page. I put a target but I wasn’t even sure if we would reach £500 as it’s not charity, it’s just to say thank-you for all the hard work she does for us. What else can we give? Cash is the best way to say that.

“Quite a few people signed the card, which I had left in Waitrose. It was a Christmas card which said: ‘Thank you’.

“Jenny is always really kind and nice with me and probably everybody, even if I can see she is super-tired.”

On the JustGiving page, other residents thanked Ms Dobson.

Debbie McFadyen said: “[She is] a marvellous lady who we simply couldn’t do without. Happy Christmas.”

Barbara Maynes said: “Thank you for all your patience and help”.

Tanya Brass said: “You do an amazing job and we appreciate everything you do, especially during this Christmas time on your own.”

Lizzie Micuta said: “Thank you for all your hard work, Jenny. Without you I doubt we would have a post office in Henley at all. Thanks for everything you do for our community.”
