THE sixth annual Henley Choir Festival raised £1,300 for charity.
About 100 singers from seven choirs took part in the event at St Mary’s Church in Hart Street on Saturday evening. All proceeds will go to Helen & Douglas House.
The choirs were from St Mary’s, All Saints’ Church in Peppard, St Nicholas’ in Rotherfield Greys, the St Mary’s Hambleden Valley Group Choir, St John the Baptist in Kidmore End and St Margaret’s in Harpsden as well Sorores, an all-female choir under the direction of Anne Evans, founder of the Aliquando choir.
Each choir performed individually in the first half of the programme and then combined, together with other singers, to perform Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit.
The soloists were Rebecca Bell, who trains the junior choir at All Saints’ in Peppard, Jamie Poston, Mandy Hall, Chloe Spencer and Ian Westly, who is organist and choirmaster at St Peter’s in Caversham. About 100 people attended the evening.
Town councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin, who organised the festival with David Butler, director of music at All Saints’, and took part, said: “It was excellent. The quality of the choirs was really good.”
