Church makeover finished

THE renovation of Watlington Methodist Church was completed this week, almost a month ahead of schedule.

THE renovation of Watlington Methodist Church was completed this week, almost a month ahead of schedule.

Steward Phil Crockett says he hopes services will be able to return to the church in two weeks after a clean-up.

Woodworm has been removed from the church’s 200-year-old chapel roof and the interior has been redecorated.

Mr Crockett said: “We thought that with a bit of luck we would be back in the chapel ready for Easter but we’re almost a month ahead of that. At the moment we are holding services in the back room which can get quite crowded on occasion.”

Most of the work was carried out by members of the congregation and their friends, helping to keep the cost to around £5,000.

Last year, a new kitchen and electric doors were installed. Mr Crockett said: “The church has had a new lease of life. Our membership is going up and we run a lunchtime club which is very popular.”
