Traditional village fete

THE Shirburn and Pyrton annual fete will take place tomorrow (Saturday).

THE Shirburn and Pyrton annual fete will take place tomorrow (Saturday).

The traditional fete will be held in the Old Stables in Pyrton from 2.30pm to 5pm.

There will be stalls selling handmade cakes and jams, gifts, plants and books, a barbecue, beer tent, raffle and bottle tombola as well as children’s activities including face-painting and a coconut shy. The fete will end with a tug of war contest.

Most of the proceeds will go towards the third stage of the restoration and repair of St Mary’s Church in Pyrton.

The first stage of re-pointing the church’s flint walls and repairing the window leading has been completed and the second stage will start next month.

About £50,000 is needed to repair the inside of the church, the final stage of the project.

The remainder of the proceeds will be donated to the scouts and guides, who have helped organise the fete.
