Walk between churches

FOUR women from Wargrave will take part in Ride and Stride later this month.

The annual event involves sponsored walkers travelling to as many churches as possible in eight hours in order to raise money.

This year it will take place on Saturday, September 14.

This will be the first year that St Mary’s Church in Wargrave has had a team taking part.

The quartet of Christine Walker, Helen Gradon, Katie Cosnett and Kathleen Snell will leave St Mary’s at 10am and hope to visit up to nine churches in the Windsor area by 6pm.

Mrs Walker, churchwarden at St Mary’s, said: “One of the reasons we decided to go to Windsor was it would be a day trip that people would enjoy. The churches are new to us but obviously very old and interesting.

“You can cycle, run or ride your horse on the route but we have decided to walk.

“We have a small group with walkers from their twenties to their seventies and everybody will go to six churches, with some of us even making it to eight or nine.

“Following the Wargrave Festival, we’re really keen to keep going with our fund-raising.”

The money raised will be split between the Berkshire Churches Trust and a church of the group’s choice.
