Catholic church opens its doors

AN open day was held at St Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Sonning Common on Saturday.

AN open day was held at St Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Sonning Common on Saturday.

Visitors were given tours of the church in Peppard Road and Father Paul Rowan gave a lecture called “The Catholic faith in today’s society — debunking the myths” twice during the day. Refreshments were available throughout the day.

Fr Rowan said: “I’m a lecturer so I was more than happy to do it and it worked well. We got a few people interested so it was worth doing. The rough title was given to me. I thought it was a good choice because there is a lot of misinformation about Catholicism.

“The current Pope is addressing that as well. He’s going out and debunking the myths, saying ‘you don’t have to be miserable if you’re Catholic’ and other things like ‘it’s not a club for the perfect’.”

In the evening the Pangbourne Silver Band performed while morning mass on Sunday was followed by a lunch for about 100 people.
