Villagers decorate hall ready for Christmas Day lunch

VOLUNTEERS decorated the village hall in Sonning Common.

VOLUNTEERS decorated the village hall in Sonning Common.

A Christmas tree and fairy lights were put on display outside the hall in Wood Lane and the interior has been decorated with the theme of

’Twas The Night Before Christmas.

The stage now has a fireplace designed by Sue Abbott, of Wood Lane, with stockings, Christmas cards and decorations hanging from it. There is also a Christmas tree, presents, an armchair and rug.

Eight people took about three hours to complete the decorating.

Parish councillor Chrissie Phillips- Tilbury said: “We did it last Saturday as a group of volunteers with people from the WI and others who help every year. Myself and Jill Vallis had the idea and it just grew and grew. All the decorations are hand-made or recycled.

“We do something a bit different each year and the decorations are hand-made because we have so many people who like making things. It’s the third year we have had a theme.”

Meanwhile, the hall will host a lunch on Christmas day for residents who are on their own or can’t face cooking a turkey for two. The lunch will include turkey and all the trimmings.

The doors will be open from 12.30pm and the lunch served at 1pm.

Tickets cost £12 each and are available from Occasions in Wood Lane or call Mrs Phillips-Tilbury on 0118 972 1058.
