A SERVICE to mark Women’s World Day of Prayer will be held at St Mary’s Church in Hart Street, Henley, next Friday (March 4) at 1.30pm.
It will be one of tens of thousands of services taking place in more than 170 countries and islands around the world as part of an international ecumenical movement.
The day begins as the sun rises over Samoa and continues until sunset off the coast of American Samoa 35 hours later.
This year’s service has been written by Christian women in Cuba, a Caribbean island which has sufffered from a 56-year-old economic embargo as a result of being at odds politically with America.
The service has been translated into more than 60 languages and 1,000 dialects.
The theme is “Receive children. Receive me” and reflects St Mark’s Gospel, Â ch 10 v 13-16.
Everyone, not just women, is welcome at the Henley service, which will be followed by tea and cake.
