Appeal to dog owners

DOG owners in Benson have been urged not to let their pets foul in churchyards.

The appeal was made by Rev Dr Patrick Gilday, the rector of the Benson and Ewelme benefice following a number of incidents in recent months.

He said: “Could I ask all dog owners to please respect the churchyards and to keep control of dogs while you are in or around the churchyards. It can be deeply distressing for families visiting loved ones’ graves to discover dog mess in the churchyards, not to mention frustrating for our dedicated team of volunteers who maintain them.”

Meanwhile, Watlington Parish Council is to investigate creating a bylaw stating that dogs should be kept on leads when on the town’s sports field and recreation ground.

The council’s pavilion and sports field committee is to ask the operations committee to investigate the idea.
