Mowing inside cemetery cut to save money

FAMILIES are being urged to keep graves at the Chalk Pit cemetery in Wargrave tidy.

The call comes as St Mary’s Church faces having to cut back on maintenance at the cemetery off Braybrooke Road due to dwindling funds.

The parochial church council has cancelled its nine-year agreement with the parish council for keeping the area tidy.

The council had been spending £5,000 a year on cutting the grass in exchange for the grave fees the church receives for burials.

The parochial church council has already spent £500 on tree surgery this year and says it needs to use the remaining money for other work.
