MORE than 60 people attended an outdoor Easter hymn service in the centre of Henley on Good Friday.
A 10ft cross was erected in Market Place and there were hymns and readings organised by representatives of Churches Together, a group of seven local churches. Russell Martin, assistant pastor at Henley Baptist Church in Market Place, played the guitar and there were readings by Rev Duncan Carter, vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Greys Hill, and Rev Glyn Millington, minister at Christ Church in Reading Road.
Following the service, members of the public were invited for food and drink at the d:two centre in Market Place.
Mr Carter said: “We have done dramatic displays before and things inside the churches but holding a service like this in public is something special. It involves a nice mix of different churches and is a lovely thing to do.”
Churches Together was founded in 1995 and also consists of St Mary the Virgin, Henley, St Nicholas, Remenham, St Margaret, Harpsden, and Sacred Heart, Henley.
