Meeting on risk of brook flooding

A MEETING is to be held next week to discuss the maintenance of a brook in Benson.

Representatives of Oxfordshire County Council, the Environment Agency and South Oxfordshire District Council will attend the meeting at the parish hall on Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm.

In the summer residents of Brook Street set up an action group because they were concerned about their homes being flooded when Ewelme Brook floods.

The Environment Agency says that people who own a property alongside a watercourse are riparian owners, whose duty is to maintain the river beds and banks.

But Rob Workman, who lives in the road and helped set up the group, said it was the agency’s responsibility to manage people doing that work.
