MATCHMAKER Lucy (Dakota Johnson) is torn between past and present in Celine Song’s latest film, Materialists (15), out today at the Regal Picturehouse in Henley.
She spends her days in Manhattan ensuring high standards for both sides of a date, with her team congratulating her on a ninth wedding as a result of her successes.
At a wedding reception, wealthy best man, Harry (Pedro Pascal), takes a shine to Lucy, but when old flame John (Chris Evans) shows up as a waiter at the reception, things become less clear-cut.
Song’s debut film, Past Lives, explored a similar theme of threads running through connected lives. With both men charming and respectful, will Lucy follow her heart?
The film has a running time of just under two hours.
Directed by Michel Fessler and based on the 1923 book by Felix Salten, which was adapted into Walt Disney’s animated film Bambi in 1942, new live-action film Bambi: A Tale of Life in the Woods (PG) is the story of a young fawn living with his mother in the forest and his friends, the crow, the rabbit and the raccoon.
When he is separated from his mother by hunters, Bambi has to learn to live alone.
He rediscovers Faline, a friend from childhood, then he finds his father, who helps him to find his way.
The film has a running time of one hour and 18 minutes.
The Regal Picturehouse is again showing a family film every day for a week with all tickets costing £1 and this week’s film is A Minecraft Movie (PG).
Continuing are Freakier Friday (PG), The Bad Guys 2 (PG), F1® the Movie (12A) and The Naked Gun (15).
