THE summer heatwave is finally on the wane, the nights are drawing in, and tonight is Friday 13th. Cue a special spooky event — a weekend of cult films on an open-air screen in the atmospheric surroundings of a country mansion.

Cult Screens opens tonight at Mapledurham House in partnership with the British Film Institute, as part of their Gothic season to present a special one-off.

Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece of modern horror, The Shining (15), one of the greatest horror movies of our times and starring the indomitable Jack Nicholson shows tonight.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is a more lighthearted affair. It’s time for all you T-Birds to grab your leather jackets and for the pink ladies out there to get ready to strut your stuff as they join Danny and Sandy for a singalong version of Grease (PG).

As Mapledurham is a little out of the way, Cult Screens have teamed up with Thames River Cruises to get you to Mapledurham House in style. They will be running sunset river taxis to the house from Caversham Bridge for £7.50 return. To book tickets, bean bags and river cruises or to find out more information visit the website at www.cultscreens.co.uk
