A First World War battlefield mystery

WHEN his wife commits suicide, Australian farmer Joshua Connor (Russell Crowe) leaves home to go

WHEN his wife commits suicide, Australian farmer Joshua Connor (Russell Crowe) leaves home to go and search for his three sons who have been missing for four years since the Battle of Gallipoli in 1915.

After arriving in Istanbul, Turkey, a child, Orhan, brings him to a hotel managed by his mother Ayshe.

Meanwhile, Major Hasan Bey and his aide Sergeant Jemal also come to Gallipoli at the request of the British War Graves Unit to help them locate their fallen.

The British deny Joshua a permit to travel to Gallipoli but Joshua gets close to Orhan and one day Ayshe tells him how to get there without a permit.

He is detained on arrival, but Joshua sticks around and eventually is allowed to search for his sons in the battlefield.

Hasan tells Joshua about one night during the battle and reveals information about what happened to the three sons, Art, Ed, and Henry.

Joshua returns to Istanbul to find out more, where he meets a dead end but gets closer to Ayshe and Orhan and becomes embroiled in the family’s affairs.

Meanwhile, the British Army try to send Joshua home and he has to flee to evade capture and continue his personal mission, which ends with some startling news.

l Other events on at the Regal Picturehouse in the next seven days include Fall Of An Empire, Show Boat – San Francisco Opera and A View From The Bridge.
