A true story, Helen Mirren plays Jewish refugeee Maria Altman who returns to her native Austria to fight for the ownership of Gustav Klimt’s famous painting which depicts her aunt.

It was stolen by the Nazis and is now hanging in a national gallery and she not only wants it back, but she also wants some measure of justice for all the death, destruction and massive art theft perpetrated by the hated group.

However, Austria is not willing to release the paintings, claiming they are now the country’s property and part of its historic culture, so Altman enlists the help of her friend’s son, Randol Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds) as she goes to war with the government, museum curators and corrupt politicians.
