THE talk at our August meeting was given by Henley resident Rolf Richardson.

Rolf’s career was spent as a BOAC and then British Airways captain, which allowed him to indulge in his hobby of photography around the world.

Rolf used some beautiful examples of the pictures he had taken over the last 50 years on several visits to China, either in the course of his flying duties or privately, to illustrate not only the wide geographical differences over the vast country but also the ethnic differences of the population.

It was also of great interest to see the changes which have been made to that huge country over the years, especially the last 25 when cities such as Shanghai have exploded in area and population.

We were shown a great variety of photographs from townscapes and street scenes to mountains and rivers, almost always including local inhabitants to add colour and interest, more especially when they were wearing local costumes.
