ALMOST £13,000 was raised in Wargrave for last year’s Poppy Appeal with door-to-door and bucket collections.
At a meeting of the local branch of the Royal British Legion, long service awards were presented to Maggie Hobbs for 20 years, Jane Batting, Shirley Ewan and Colin Lewington (15 years) and Anne Balgarnie, Julia Freeman, Barbara Ratings, Fiona Stubbs and Ruth-Mary Vaughan (10 years).
The Poppy Cup, which is given each year to a special contributor to the appeal, was awarded posthumously to Douglas Paterson, a collector who died last year. His widow Maureen accepted the trophy.
Volunteers are needed to help with this year’s appeal. For more information, call appeal organiser Pat Beilby-Smith on 0118 940 4752.
