Friends of Freemans Meadows

WE are carrying out a wildflower experiment on Freemans Meadow in conjunction with Henley Town Council’s parks department.

It is one of many initiatives by the conservation warden Ilona Livarski that has gained support and volunteer manpower help from Friends of Freemans Meadow.

Establishing wildflowers in a semi-rural grassland environment can be a surprisingly tricky proposition but, after much deliberation with the parks team, it has been decided to trial a short strip of about 10m x 1m in a sunny spot along the Pearce’s Orchard wall towards the Fairmile Court end as an experiment.

This week, the parks team was to mechanically lift a strip of turf and the Freemans Friends volunteers to help prepare the ground.

The strip will then be left bare until weeding and seed sowing day which is planned for April 10, so if anyone is interested do come along and see what we’re up to.

If you’d like to join in with this or any other Freemans initiatives, please email friendsoffreemansmeadow with your contact details.
