Scout group revived after 16-year absence

A SCOUT group that was revived after 16 years has invested its first members.

The 1st Sonning Common scouts started again last month and eight cubs have moved to the pack.

Three volunteers, leader Karl Taylor, Felicity Cooper and Nicola Lunnon, as well as parents were present at the ceremony at the scout headquarters in Baskerville Road. Penny Edwards, who is akela of the cub pack, and her husband Graham, who is group chairman, also attended.

Mrs Edwards said she was pleased to see cubs becoming scouts rather than trying to find other groups, which had happened in the past.

Mr Taylor, a joiner, said: “The troop has been together for four weeks and, although small in numbers, we have great ambition and are eager to try out new things that scouting has to offer. In time we hope that the troop will grow.”
