THE Sonning Common branch of the Women’s Institute has raised £120 for good causes.
Thirty-five women gathered for an afternoon tea party in the garden at member Sue Hedges’ home in Hazelmoor Lane, Gallowstree Common.
The money was raised through a raffle and the sale of refreshments. It will go towards three charity projects for improving computer literacy in Romania, rehabilitating child prisoners in Uganda and teaching disabled women in West Bengal to weave. The Oxfordshire Federation of Women’s Institutes has pledged to raise a total of £3,771 for the projects.
Trine Lucy, who is on the board of trustees for the federation, spoke at the tea about the work of the Associated Country Women of the World, which the WI supports.
Mrs Hedges said: “It was a social event as well as for raising money. We wore fancy hats and purple and a good time was had by all.”
