HOME Secretary Theresa May has become the first president of Wargrave Girls’ Football Club.

The Maidenhead MP, who lives in Sonning, visited the club in May 2010 to present the annual awards.

Club chairman Bob Austen said: “We are very proud that Theresa May has become our president.

“This reflects the interest that she has in local affairs and girls’ football and we feel deeply honoured that she has agreed to support our club in this way.”

The club, which began 12 years ago, now has 110 members and has teams in nine local leagues.

Thirty parents work in coaching and support roles.

It is hoped that a ladies’ team can be launched in time for the 2013/14 season.
