Mayor harvests ideas for in bloom final

HENLEY Mayor Elizabeth Hodgkin and town clerk Mike Kennedy have been picking up tips for the town’s entry into Britain

HENLEY Mayor Elizabeth Hodgkin and town clerk Mike Kennedy have been picking up tips for the town’s entry into Britain in Bloom.

Following Henley’s victory in the regional finals last year, the pair attended a seminar for the towns that will be competing in the national final this summer. At the event in Harrogate, Cllr Hodgkin and Mr Kennedy met judges and found out more about the competition’s scoring system.

The Mayor said: “I very much enjoyed meeting other finalists and exchanging experiences. The workshops were extremely useful and we are armed with lots of ideas for the campaign.”

Henley will be up against eight other towns, including Windermere in Cumbria, Newquay in Cornwall and the City of London with judging taking place between July 29 and August 9.

Watlington is also through to the finals after winning in the large village category and the town’s co-ordinators Terry and Keith Jackson also attended the seminar.
