Parrott entertains sportsmen with chat

FORMER snooker world champion John Parrott was the guest speaker at Henley Rugby Club’s sportsman’s dinner.

FORMER snooker world champion John Parrott was the guest speaker at Henley Rugby Club’s sportsman’s dinner.

Members of the club, their friends and supporters were among the 140-strong audience at Dry Leas.

The dinner was provided by the Baskerville Arms in Shiplake, and an auction raised about £5,000 for the club. Former international rugby player Rob Fidler gave a short talk about his time with the England team before the main speaker. He entertained guests with stories about the celebrated Clive Woodward, who was then starting his career as coach. Parrott then spoke about his time on the professional snooker circuit as well as a team captain on the BBC’s quiz game programme, Question Of Sport.

Graham Horner, club president, said: “John Parrott was excellent, very professional and amusing. He said Question Of Sport was the highlight of his sporting career — which I think was said tongue in cheek.”
