New £2,000 activity room for youth club

A NEW activities room is being created for Club SC, Sonning Common’s youth club.

A NEW activities room is being created for Club SC, Sonning Common’s youth club.

The spare space at Chiltern Edge School is to be refurbished to provide facilities for cooking and arts and crafts activities.

The club raised more than £2,000 with donations from Oxfordshire County Council’s Chill Out Fund, the Chiltern Edge Community Association, Daisy’s coffee shop and Goring, Woodcote and District Lions Club.

Youth leader Becky Jenkins said: “We wanted to do more arts and crafts activities and events and the funding allowed us to get it kitted out. We have a kitchenette but it’s not big enough to do any cooking because everyone gets on top of each other so it will be good to have more space to do that.”

The club will also have storage space for musical equipment as Readipop, a music and arts charity based in Reading, is to hold a six-week music course.

Ms Jenkins said: “Having that space will allow us to do separate activities away from the main area where there’s a lot of noise.

“We can have a quieter space for those who don’t want to be involved in the sports and everything else.

“It’s going to enable a much better use of space.”
