Everyone for tennis

A TENNIS tournament for families will be held at Henley Tennis Club tomorrow (Saturday).

A TENNIS tournament for families will be held at Henley Tennis Club tomorrow (Saturday).

The free family mini tennis tournament will involve doubles teams of parents and children aged eight to 11.

Some games will be played on the Tilebarn Avenue club’s new mini tennis court, which has been graded “orange” by the Lawn Tennis Association.

The new clubhouse will be officially opened by Mayor Stefan Gawrysiak and there will be a one-off “history of tennis” exhibition including donated memorabilia.

Other attractions include a tennis fashion picture quiz, a “Taste of Wimbledon” buffet, swingball and a chance for families with young children to try mini tennis with small racquets and nets, while older teenagers can play their own tournament.

The event, from 10am to 1pm, has been recognised by South Oxfordshire District Council as part of its Community Games initiative to bring communities together to take part in sports and cultural activities inspired by the London Olympics.
