TWO boys from Gillotts School in Henley won a young chef competition organised by the Henley Bridge Rotary Club.

TWO boys from Gillotts School in Henley won a young chef competition organised by the Henley Bridge Rotary Club.

Jude Mawbey and Tom Cridland beat a duo from Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common.

The annual contest, now in its 17th year, is open to all secondary schools in the Henley area.

Teams are expected to prepare, cook and serve a healthy three-course meal for two people.

The judges award marks for choices, skills, hygiene, taste and presentation.

Jude and Tom’s winning meal comprised asparagus and prosciutto parcels followed by salmon en croute with steamed vegetables and then sticky toffee pudding decorated with spun sugar lattice. The competition is sponsored by Connect Catering, of Wallingford, and was judged by managing director John Herring and two of his senior chefs.

Mr Herring, who presented the prizes and certificates with Rotarian Steve Watkins, said: “All five teams designed and cooked their meals to a very high standard and the marks awarded to the top three were very close indeed.”
