THE Henley Mile swim returns to the royal regatta course on Sunday.

THE Henley Mile swim returns to the royal regatta course on Sunday.

There will be a number of different challenges aimed at families.

In addition to the suits-versus-skins challenge and performance wave, there will be a new competition, the Temple Island Sprints.

This will feature a series of heats, semi-finals and finals over a 100m upstream course.

The traditional mile race is open to experienced and non-experienced swimmers of all ages, from 14 to 70-plus.There are also two shorter races specifically for junior swimmers.

The Henley Half Mile is for more experienced juniors, aged between 10 and 14, and will be followed by the 200m Henley Splash, which is for eight- to 13-year-olds.

Both races will be timed and prizes given to the winners of the different age groups. All competitors will receive a medal and certificate with their finishing time.

Event spokeswoman Georgina Tomkins said: “These races are a great opportunity for young swimmers to get a taste of swimming in open water, whether they want to be seriously competitive or just have a go.

“In addition to the swimming action, there will be refreshments, a few stands and children’s entertainment, including face painting and a bouncy castle.”

The swim takes place from 9.30am and entries will be taken on the day. For more information, visit www.henleyswim.com
