Last call for entries to regatta and swim

ENTRIES for the Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta are still available before they close on Tuesday.

ENTRIES for the Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta are still available before they close on Tuesday.

There are also still spaces for the open water swim that will accompany the event on Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10.

There will be a race every three minutes between 9am and 7pm each day with events including skiffing, punting, paddling, dongola and dinghy races.

Regatta chairman Guy van Zwananberg said: “Our regatta is a real local event and we encourage everyone to take part.

“We have families who have competed together and with friends for decades and every year we welcome newcomers of all ages.

“This year, we’re celebrating the 125th anniversary of dongola racing at the regatta, so we’ll be marking the event by holding a re-run of the Dongola Centenary Challenge, raced back on the 100th anniversary in 1988.

“It will be one handicapped race between the winners of the junior dongola, the Thames dongola and the dongola grand challenge cup.”

The swim will take place on the Saturday morning and entrants can choose either a 1,000m or 2,000m course. Entry costs £25.

The regatta enclosure and car parking are on the Shiplake side of the river, accessible via Mill Lane, or you can take a ferry from the George & Dragon in Wargrave high street.
