Quiz in aid of hall makeover

A QUIZ has been launched to test Shiplake residents’ knowledge of the village.

A QUIZ has been launched to test Shiplake residents’ knowledge of the village.

The Memorial Trail was created by the Shiplake Local History Group to raise money for the modernisation of the village memorial hall.

Questions include why did Princess Elizabeth visit the village in 1950, what was the name of former resident George Orwell’s house and how did the memorial cross arrive in Shiplake?

Residents can take part in the quiz while walking the trail, which begins at the memorial cross and ends at the hall.

Janet Matthews, leader of the group, said: “Along the way you can find out some interesting historical facts but it is much more than a factual booklet as there are more than 40 observational questions for people to answer.”

Participants can win prizes, including a meal for two with a bottle of wine at the Baskerville Arms, a £40 meal voucher at the Plowden Arms, £30 to spend at Shiplake Butchers and £20 at the corner shop in Station Road.

The trail costs £2.50 and the deadline for completion is August 30.
