Helping hand for climbing Mayor

WHEN you are the Mayor, you can expect some unusual challenges.

WHEN you are the Mayor, you can expect some unusual challenges.

Which is why Lorraine Hillier had no hesitation in agreeing to clamber up a climbing wall that was among the attractions at a fun day held in Makins recreation ground in Henley.

The Mayor was given some help on the way to the top by fellow councillor David Eggleton, chairman of Gainsborough Residents’ Association.

She said: “It was a fun thing to do. David was a big help to me on the way up.”

Cllr Eggleton said: “I did pause a few times to help the Mayor. I have never been on the climbing wall before but we both made it to the top.”

About 100 people attended the event, where other attractions included laser tag, face-painting, a barbecue, treasure hunt, rounders and a decorate-a-cake stand.

Cllr Eggleton said: “People stayed long after the event was supposed to finish to play a game of rounders organised by Dawn Tripp. Everyone had a fantastic time.”

He thanked youth and community group Nomad and Soha Housing for organising the fun day.
