Shake-up for awards

THE Henley in Bloom awards are to be revamped for next year.

THE Henley in Bloom awards are to be revamped for next year.

Pubs and restaurants will now be asked to submit entries to the competition rather than being automatically judged.

The Henley in Bloom committee has also agreed to judge front and back gardens in the restaurant and pubs section of the awards separately. Previously only front gardens have been judged.

Kellie Hinton, vice-chairman of the committee, said it had been “embarrassing” in previous years when winners had not turned up to the awards presentation ceremony at the town hall.

Chairman Simon Smith added: “If they have to enter, they will turn up for the awards.”

A Christmas display competition may also be introduecd next year.
