Toddler group closes after 25 years

A TODDLER playgroup in Henley has closed down after more than 25 years

A TODDLER playgroup in Henley has closed down after more than 25 years.

Nappy Wearers, which was based at the Christ Church Centre in Reading Road, held its final session on Friday.

Louise Pegley, 41, of St Anne?s Close, Henley, has been lead volunteer for the weekly playgroup for the last three years but has stepped down as her children, Alice, 11, Ruby, seven, and Harry, four, no longer attend.

She said: ?I?ve been struggling to run it. It has just got too much and nobody has come forward to help. I took it up because my children used it. My youngest is four now and it is a bit much to do every week. He is getting older and I?ve got other commitments and was struggling to find help on a regular basis.?

All toys and equipment used by the group will be donated to the Christ Church Centre.

Mrs Pegley said there was a possibility that some other people might re-start the group in a new form in January.

Jill Hall, of Trust Corner, Henley, ran the playgroup for 15 years until 2012 and attended the final session.

She said: ?Mums and their children came here and made friends ? that?s what it was all about. It is a shame that it is closing.?
