Following French method

LUIGI GUITART wants to set up a dog club in Henley, similar to those in his native France.

LUIGI GUITART wants to set up a dog club in Henley, similar to those in his native France. It would offer sitting services, obedience lessons and sport training.

He said: “Every single village in France has a dog club and people go there on a Saturday and create their own community — it’s amazing. I think we could extend that idea to create a community around our dogs but we will need a space which isn’t already in use or too neglected.

“It could offer affordable dog care because how many dogs spend hours locked in cars or with the same walker? A dog shouldn’t be a luxury, it should be affordable and I think £15 to look after a dog for a day is about right.” Mr Guitart said Henley was a good place for the club because there were so many dog owners and lots of open space for their pets to run around in or train.

He said: “If it doesn’t work here I will be really disappointed but if it does it will make Henley the number one town for dog lovers. I want somewhere that people can go for agility training or sport and we could even have a challenge every year.”

Mr Guitart has put together a business case and made a presentation to town councillors.

He said: “This would allow me to go full-time and it could also bring other things, like teaching kids to speak French. I showed the council my idea and now I’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
