AT the annual meeting on February 11, the chairman Pam Richardson gave a warm welcome to all the members present. A copy of the financial report was issued to all members who were pleased to see a healthy balance.
Pam reminded us that the highlight of the year was celebrating the 20th anniversary of the club, which was started by a few friends wanting to emulate their husbands and have a Probus luncheon club.
She thought that the main attraction for the members was the quality and variety of speakers.
She thanked the committee members for the work they put in and again assured the members that it is fun and not onerous to be on the committee.
There have been eight new members to the club this year. A full report is in the secretary’s file. Pat Burton, our founder and president, also gave a vote of thanks to all the committee for keeping the club going.
All the committee members have agreed to remain and take it in turns to be chairman on the retirement of the chairman and so were elected en bloc after being proposed by Sarah Spong and seconded by Ann Duffy.
The chairman was given a vote of thanks for all she had done for the club and the commitee during the past year and received a lovely azalea for her garden.
Following the meeting, Rolf Richardson gave a most wonderful talk with photographs of his trip through China with beautiful gardens, Bejing, a new city with skyscrapers, the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Warriors and then on to Singapore.
The next monthly meeting will be on March 10 when Tony Hadland will talk about “Famous Belgians” with some interesting surprises.
