PLANS to build a sports and fitness pavilion in the grounds of Phyllis Court Club in Henley have been backed by members.

PLANS to build a sports and fitness pavilion in the grounds of Phyllis Court Club in Henley have been backed by members.

At the members’ special meeting on Tuesday Patricia Christmas, chairwoman of the council, announced that the resolution had been supported by 1,118 members out of the total of 1,746 who voted.

The single-storey pavilion will include a swimming pool, gym, exercise studio, treatment rooms and changing rooms.

Mrs Christmas said it would greatly enhance the sporting activities available in the club.

She said: “The current fitness groups at Phyllis Court, which include rowing, croquet, tennis, canoe and kayaking, golf, Pilates and yoga, will be delighted to have purpose-built accommodation as a result of this historic decision. Of course Phyllis Court will continue to have a wide range of interest groups including fine art, computers, jazz and wine.”

The club will now appoint a project manager to move the development forward, and a major membership drive will be initiated in the next month.
