AT the April meeting the chairman reported that the new lift at Badgemore Park Golf Club is now installed and fully working, enabling members to have full disabled access to the upper floor.
Our speaker was Phil Cockrell who spoke about his work as an independent financial adviser for ethically responsible people.
The history of ethical investment goes back to the Methodists and Quakers of the 19th century with a modern day resurgence starting in 1971 with the anti-Vietmam War protests.
Specialists in the field can help investors avoid companies and organisations involved in, for example, animal cruelty, fossil fuels, armaments, the nuclear industry and tobacco.
Investment opportunities can be found in the mainstream, themed and specialist companies and those with a high social impact.
It was pointed out that many major pension funds may have assets in the non-ethical sector. All in all, an interesting and thought-Â provoking subject.
Our next meeting will be the annual meeting on Tuesday, May 10, starting at 11am to which anybody who would like to join the club is cordially invited.
