ON Saturday, June 11, Phyllis Court Club hosted its first English wine fair when members and their guests enjoyed the many wines and local produce presented by 18 wineries and nine local food producers.
The club is proud to have arranged this event as part of our 110th anniversary celebrations and to mark the start of a membership drive.
We also celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with a special afternoon tea the following day.
Gill Markham, who chairs the Wine Circle, said: “We really appreciated the support of these local companies, who were very knowledgeable.
“They presented a selection of goods — there were award-winning wines, locally made cheeses and a wide range of charcuterie products and pies, not to mention delicious sauces, jams and home-made chocolates. Many members were seen leaving with bags full of products, having enjoyed tasting, sampling and then buying goods.”
Many of the exhibitors, who were visiting Phyllis Court Club for the first time, were impressed by the professionalism, support and interest in this event and enjoyed meeting many of the members who spent time talking about their products and businesses.
The Wine Circle will consider holding similar events in future.
